The School of Social Work, UAS Northwestern Switzerland, provides a Bachelor and a Master programme in Social Work, has proven research and development strength, offers continuing education programmes and delivers services to social service organisations.
The research and development activities are concentrated on "social innovation" in terms of research based further development and innovation of approaches, courses of action, offers and programmes in social work practice.
Against this background the research and development projects are concentrated around four core areas:

With about 1200 Bachelor’s and Master’s students and over 900 continuing education students, the School of Social Work UAS Northwestern Switzerland, located at Olten and Basel, is the largest provider of social work education and professional development in German-speaking Switzerland.
BA Social Work students build competences enabling them to direct practice. The MA Social Work students acquire the competences required to evaluate social work methods, courses of action, and programmes. Coursework equips them to develop social work and social policy courses of action, methods, and programmes adequate to resolving given problems in transdisciplinary contexts and diverse environments.
